How realizing your aspirations can lead you to your muse
ALL OUR DREAMS CAN COME TRUE…IF WE HAVE THE COURAGE TO PURSUE THEM.
We all have had aspirations to be the best at something, and these goals never really just go away. By looking into yourself and exploring your life dreams, you might be able to find the necessary motivation and inspiration to get you moving forward on your next creative idea.
Dreams and Aspirations
When you first set out to do what you wanted to do with your life, did you have it in your head that you were just going to be barely adequate at it? Was it your ambition to become a run of the mill doctor, a cook who just gets by, or a cellist that knows three chords?
When you first began to dream about where you wanted to go with your life you wanted to be the best. You wanted to be a renowned surgeon, a Michelin rated chef, or the next Yo Yo Ma. It was only later on in life that you began to accept compromises and allow terms like “realistic” and “practical” creep into your life goal vocabulary. Deep down inside us somewhere we still have those dreams, but that original fire that was lit under our butts has died down a bit.
That is okay, it happens to the best of us, but if you happen to be looking for your muse and cannot seem to find it anywhere else, you might want to try digging deep into yourself and reexamining these lofty life dreams. Looking at the dreams, aspirations, passions and ideals that drive you can help you find the inspiration you need to get your project off the ground.
For example, let us say that deep down inside it has been your dream to be a respected journalist known around the globe. Now let us say that you have just been given the opportunity to write a story for a local paper. While it is not a story that will make global headlines, it is one that the local community takes interest in. By looking at your dreams of becoming a global journalist, you find the inspiration to take the local story a bit more seriously and do the best job you can at covering it. While it may be of only local importance, by writing it as you would an article that would make headlines around the world and putting everything that you got into it, you will most likely write a much more in depth article. By doing this, you might find yourself uncovering more local story ideas and gaining experiences that will bring you closer to your dreams.
Next time you need inspiration to begin something creative, take a moment to look inside yourself and examine your life goals. Ask yourself how what you are working on now is going to get you closer to your dream. See if you can approach what you are currently working on with the same ideals and enthusiasm that you hold for your loftiest goals. By treating every project as if it was the next step towards your dream, you might find yourself with better ideas and insights to make it the best work that you can possibly come up with.
