How recording your idea with all the details can help you find your muse
"WHEN YOU WRITE DOWN YOUR IDEAS YOU AUTOMATICALLY FOCUS YOUR FULL ATTENTION ON THEM. FEW IF ANY OF US CAN WRITE ONE THOUGHT AND THINK ANOTHER AT THE SAME TIME. THUS A PENCIL AND PAPER MAKE EXCELLENT CONCENTRATION TOOLS.”
In order to gain the most from a good idea that come to you, it is important to record it, making sure to get down every detail. Whether you use a notebook, a pc or the back of your hand, it is important that you squeeze out every detail of your good idea that you can so that you will benefit from it when you come back to it.
Freshly squeezed idea juice
I love juice, especially freshly squeezed orange juice. Going to the supermarket and buying a carton of the stuff may be easier, but it is nowhere near as healthy or delicious as buying the oranges and squeezing them yourself. Since it is not pasteurized, nor sitting around in a cooler for who knows how long, fresh squeezed orange juice is a lot healthier and tastier, making it worth the extra time and effort it takes to squeeze out every juicy morsel of goodness.
Ideas are a lot like oranges and nothing beats freshly squeezed idea juice for creative inspiration. Like those oranges you found in the health food store, in order to spur your creativity, a good idea needs to be squeezed while it is still ripe, and squeezed well in order to get out all the juicy details. You need to press down hard on your brain juicer and wrangle out every last detail of your idea so that it may better serve you when you choose to run with it.
Types of Brain Juicers available
There are a number of good ways for you to record your ideas and squeeze them for all they are worth…
- A notebook
Handy, dandy and portable: keep a notebook in your backpack, purse or fanny pack and whip it out every time you get a good an idea, being sure to write down everything that comes to you at the moment. Another good place to keep a notebook is in your car, just be sure to pull over before your start jotting your grand scheme down.
- A laptop
A laptop is not as portable as a notebook (good luck fitting it into your fanny pack), but for those of us who like to let our finger tips do the talking and like everything filed away, a laptop with a special idea folder might be the place to go to when you have some ripe ideas to squeeze.
- A voice recorder
This might seem like a stereotypical Hollywood writer idea, but some find saving all their thoughts on a voice recorder to be a useful way to get their ideas out. Just be sure to turn it off when all you are doing is singing along with the radio.
- Your smart phone
Those new phones are notepads, voice recorders and video cameras all wrapped into one handy dandy package. You can text yourself your new idea, or send to your e-mail, or just save it on your phone.
Whatever brain juicing device you choose to utilize to squeeze out all of your good ideas is up to you. Just be sure to really squeeze the heck out of that good idea and to record every detail that you possibly can. Get everything down, drain the brain and then store away your freshly squeezed idea, to be savored later, for unlike orange juice, idea juice can be shelved for a while without losing any of its benefits.
