How a “just do it” attitude can help you find your muse
“WHEN I SIT AT MY TABLE TO WRITE, I NEVER KNOW WHAT IT'S GOING TO BE UNTIL I'M UNDER WAY. I TRUST IN INSPIRATION, WHICH SOMETIMES COMES AND SOMETIMES DOESN'T. BUT I DON'T SIT BACK WAITING FOR IT. I WORK EVERY DAY”
Sometimes in order to get creatively inspired, you need to roll up your sleeves and dig in. Forcing yourself to take action can help go out there and grab you muse by the scuff of the neck, put it in a headlock and force it to inspire you.
Go for it
Quit sitting on your hands waiting for it to come to you, get out there and tackle that muse! Put it in a headlock, give it a few noogies, and then insist that it inspires you. Sometimes, in order to get creative, you need to roll up the sleeves and tackle the problem head on. You will be amazed and what comes out when you decide to quit poking around and get busy being busy. Soon, you will find yourself on a roll and unable to stop. The desert that was your uninspired mind will start to bloom with flowers of creative ideas, watered by the sweat of your action.
People of action get things done
“You did something. That’s what counts.” –Shaun Of the Dead
When zombies tried to take over England, Shaun did not just sit around and let himself or his loved ones get eaten. He took action and did what he could to survive the onslaught of the flesh eating undead. If he would have just sat around and hemmed and hawed about the problem, he would probably be craving sweet delicious brains instead of regaining his girlfriends respect and learning a valuable life lesson while only losing few close friends and family members along the way.
“You don’t have to be great to get started, but you have to get started to be great.”- Les Brown
Funny movies aside, history is full of people of action finding their creative genius. What would have happened to the Sistine Chapel if Michelangelo refused to put down his latte and climb up the scaffold to start work on his masterpiece? Where would the winners of the Super Bowl go to if Walt Disney had decided never roll up his sleeves and get around the creating “The Happiest place on Earth”? In order to turn your ideas and daydreams into a reality, in order to overcome the “it’s not possible” attitude that is affecting you, you first need to take action.
